Obtain a residence visa in Portugal and Europe

On October 7, 2023, Decree No. 81/XV came into force, within the scope of the Mais Moradia Program, which brought significant changes to the Residence Permit for Investment Activity (Golden Visa) regime.
Among the main changes, the end of new Golden Visa applications related to real estate investment and capital deposits stands out. However, ongoing processes remain eligible for renewal, both for investors and their families.

Investors who already have a Golden Visa can renew their authorization, which will be converted into a Residence Permit for Immigrant Entrepreneurs. The conditions of stay remain accessible:

● First year: Minimum of 7 days (consecutive or interpolated);
● Next years: Minimum of 14 days in each 2-year period.

Despite restrictions on real estate investment, the Golden Visa program still allows new applications based on other types of investment, such as:

●  Creation of 10 jobs in Portugal.

●  Capital transfer of at least €500,000 for scientific research activities, in public or private institutions.

●  Investment of €250,000 in support of artistic production, recovery or preservation of national cultural heritage, through public entities and foundations.

●  Acquisition of non-real estate collective investment units, with a minimum value of €500,000, 60% of which must be invested in Portuguese companies.

●  Formation of a commercial company in Portugal with a capital of €500,000 and creation of 5 permanent jobs, or reinforcement of capital in an existing company, with the maintenance of 10 jobs (5 permanent) for at least 3 years.

Although the Golden Visa has undergone significant changes, it is still possible to invest in Portugal and benefit from the advantages of residency, as long as the investment is made outside the real estate sector. The program remains an attractive opportunity for anyone wishing to establish a connection with Portugal, with very flexible stay requirements and several investment options available.
